At the top of the list of wrongdoers is Compass Group USA, a Charlotte, North Carolina based company performing contracted food services for both the public and private sector. Negative disconfirmation is not an uncommon experience reported with Compass Group and its supporting divisions. The company consistently does not meet minimum expectations, maintains higher than warranted prices, and awards incompetent members of management with unchecked management control. To the dismay of many customers who report being ripped off by this company, Compass Group USA consistently delivers no response. In fact, the company goes through great effort not to disclose their identity of both the business and members of management. Complaints are completely ignored.

Compass Group currently owns and operates the following brands: All Leisure Hospitality, Canteen Vending, Chartwells, Crothall, DeltaFM, Eurest, Eurest Support Services (ESS), Keith Prowse Corporate Hospitality, Levy Restaurants, Medirest, Morrison Management Specialists, Omega Security Services, Restaurant Associates, Scolarest and Bon Appétit Management Company, Compass Group operates several owned brands, including Trattoria Pizza, Mondo Subs, (UK & USA) Origin Foods and Spice of Life (UK Hospitals) as well as operating Costa Coffee and Starbucks under license.

Gary Aldman with the Better Business Bureau reports that Compass Group USA has an F rating for not responding to customer complaints. His advice: be extremely careful about scanning your credit card at any location operated by this business. Remember, there is very little oversight, so research the company first. A quick search on Compass Group shows a myriad of complaints.

The Better Business Bureau reports dozens of various instances in which,  Compass Group was cited for claiming to be a different entity in order to avoid properly placed complaints and disputes.

Cases of Fraud and Bad Dealings
In a personal communication with a customer who reports that Compass Group has ripped them off, the interviewee shows that Compass Group USA made an improper charge to his credit card for over $1,400. A closer look at the contract regarding this charge states that the customer has the right to cancel services at any time. But when this respondent went to cancel a meal plan at this local University, the charge remained outstanding. And when this consumer later followed up with the company managers tried stating that it was too late even though this was not a condition of cancellation.

Interestingly enough, the student in point states, "I only canceled the meal plan, because of the way a company manager handled a report of a disorderly employee; compass group was new to us and I canceled the contract after the first semester."

Both members of management responsible at Compass Group refused an interview. And when the complaint was filed with the Better Business Bureau, the corporate contact for Compass Group USA, inc. falsely stated that they were "not the correct entity."

A lesson learned the hard way, but as this student reports, "The individuals operating Compass Group USA can run and deny responsibility, but ripping people off is going to come back on them." Compass Group now faces charges in reference to this case.

From offering bribes on contracted food services to improperly placed charges, the Compass Group trademark is widely recognized for unscrupulous business practices and wrongdoings. As a result, the corporation is banned from operating in many states, including but not limited to Connecticut among others.
